I loved my experience at UMP because I felt welcomed from the very first moment I arrived. A lot of effort was put forth to make the cultural differences easier to adjust to. I was given opportunities to make friends and practice Bahasa Indonesia as much as I was willing to. Even though my Indonesian was horrible at the beginning it improved quickly with support from so many people. Living in Indonesia, especially Purwokerto was significantly different from my life in America, but I preferred the experience I had over if I had stayed in a more "Western" style accommodation.  There is a lot to get used to, but with how enthusiastic everyone is to understand you and to help you learn the Indonesian culture you come to enjoy every moment.
