The students of the KNB (Developing Countries Partnership) Scholarship Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto carried out an outing class on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. This activity was organized as part of an outdoor learning program aimed at improving communication skills, enhancing cultural understanding, and familiarizing students with the local environment. The outing class was attended by all KNB students and supervised by lecturers and academic staff.
The activity began in the morning at the UMP Bus Stop, where students gathered before boarding the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) as their mode of transportation to the destination. The use of BRT was chosen to provide students with first-hand experience using the public transportation system in Purwokerto. The group got off at the bus stop in front of the Public Service Mall (MPP), the nearest stop to Taman Mas Kemambang.
Upon arriving at Taman Mas Kemambang, students commenced the main agenda by exploring the area. They studied the site’s layout, identified directions and access routes, and observed the facilities available in the park. A key focus of the exploration was the traditional Joglo house, where students learned about its cultural value, architectural function, and the philosophical meanings behind this traditional Javanese building. This activity provided a meaningful cultural experience, especially for international students.
The next agenda was the speaking practice session, which served as the academic core of the outing class. During this activity, students practiced describing places, giving directions, and presenting information about the Joglo house based on their observations. Conducted in groups, the session encouraged discussion and improved communication skills in both Indonesian and English.
After the learning activities concluded, students were given the opportunity to try various local culinary dishes available around Taman Mas Kemambang. This activity not only served as a recreational moment but also allowed students to appreciate the flavors and diversity of traditional Purwokerto cuisine.
Overall, the outing class ran smoothly, orderly, and with great enthusiasm. The KNB students gained valuable experiences both academically and culturally, supporting their adaptation process as international students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto.
