Purwokerto – As part of their cultural immersion program, students from the KNB scholarship and the SEA Teacher program participated in the Culture in Motion activities held from 31 October to 1 November 2025 in Yogyakarta. The program was designed to provide firsthand experiences of Javanese culinary heritage, traditions, and performing arts.

The series of activities began with a traditional culinary experience at Gudeg Yu Djum, allowing the participants to enjoy one of Yogyakarta’s most iconic dishes. The group then continued with a thrilling Lava Jeep Tour around the Merapi area, including visits to the Merapi Museum, the Alien Rock site, and an adventurous wet-route jeep ride.

On the following day, the students attended an introductory workshop on wayang at Balai Bahasa Minomari, led by Dr. Eddy Pursubaryanto, M.Hum. They learned about the philosophy behind wayang, character symbolism, and the basic techniques of controlling the puppets. The participants also had the opportunity to observe the traditional process of pakbia making, gaining insight into local craftsmanship.

In the evening, the group explored the vibrant atmosphere of Malioboro Night Tour, where they enjoyed local street food, music, and traditional crafts. The program concluded with a visit to the Yogyakarta Palace (Keraton), where the students watched a Ramayana performance, joined a museum tour, and learned about the historical and cultural heritage of the Javanese Kingdom.

The Culture in Motion program not only deepened the international students’ understanding of Indonesian culture but also strengthened cross-cultural connections through immersive and memorable learning experiences.
