PURWOKERTO, INDONESIA – Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP) continues to demonstrate its competitiveness on the global stage as one of its outstanding students, Aditya Saputra, has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM) Scholarship. Aditya, a student of the English Literature Study Program at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences and Communication, is currently representing the university in Europe, undertaking a semester of study at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski in Bulgaria.
The program, which runs from September 2025 to February 2026, serves as a testament to UMP’s commitment to internationalization and academic excellence. The Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility program is a highly competitive initiative funded by the European Union, designed to allow students to move between Programme and Partner countries to study, teach, or train. Being selected for this scholarship places Aditya among a distinct group of high-achieving students capable of meeting rigorous international academic standards.
Aditya is spending his semester at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, the oldest and most prestigious higher education institution in Bulgaria. This placement offers him a unique vantage point to experience the European higher education system firsthand. By studying at such a historic institution, Aditya is not only gaining credits toward his degree but is also immersing himself in a rich cultural environment that differs significantly from his home in Purwokerto.
The International Office of UMP has highlighted that this exchange is about more than just coursework. The Erasmus+ program offers students the invaluable opportunity to experience international academic life, expand their global professional networks, and significantly enhance their academic and cross-cultural competencies. For a student of English Literature like Aditya, living and studying in a diverse European capital provides practical exposure to intercultural communication and global perspectives that cannot be replicated in a traditional classroom setting.
The university hopes that Aditya’s success will serve as a catalyst for other UMP students to pursue global opportunities. As his program concludes in February 2026, Aditya is expected to return to Purwokerto with new insights, skills, and experiences that will enrich the academic atmosphere at UMP and inspire the next generation of students to dream of education without borders.(shan)
